Elizabeth and Ruby were talking about jail, and Ruby said what if you had a baby in jail?  Mom said that maybe they would take the baby away.

“I wish Pippi Longstocking were alive and had a hammer and would fly around the world like Frau Diane’s sister and knock down all the jails.”

Elizabeth was talking about the chair of her department.

R:  (sitting up in her chair, very straight).  I know why it's called the chair.
E:  Why?
R:  Because it's like Kings and Queens, and they sit in big chairs.

Elizabeth is away for the weekend, and when Ruby and I were talking to her yesterday after gymnastics Ruby said "I got a butterfly sticker."  She paused, and then said "I'm not going to show it to Daddy."
E:  Why?
R:  Just so it's fair.

March 13

Just cleaning off my desk, and found this note from 3/11/11.
Us: admiration at her cartwheels.
R: "That's Gelsey Kirkland for ya."

Baby Clothes

Ruby has for a long time now wanted to wear her baby clothes. I'll need to take a picture. Yesterday, she had on a onesie (it snapped -- barely), another "baby sweater" (6 months), and a pull up. The original baby sweater she wears quite frequently to pre-school. (ecec)

also: great trip to Joshua Tree a few days ago with Jonas and Helen and Eva. Ruby kept picking up the phone to call Jeff (the Dad). Also, called J and H "Honus and Jellin."

The Chicken Chasing Queen of Lamar County

On the bed, tonight, about to jump to the floor: "I'm the chicken chasing queen of lamar pony!" much giggling. She likes to look at her reflection in the window across from our bed, and jump down to the mattress we have on the floor for when Ruby kicks Elizabeth in the middle of the night. She especially likes to watch her hair fly up.

On a non-child note, I've become obsessed with twitter. If you follow the right people, you can find amazing information on the ground about various protests as they happen: Egypt, Bahrain, Yemen, Iraq, Libya, Wisconsin.

And many congratulations to Elizabeth for her two (!) fellowships for next year. That book is a-comin'!
